National Tobacco Control Cell (NTCC), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW) with the technical assistance from The Union organized a workshop on implementation and enforcement of amended tobacco control law at the conference room of Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Madaripur on 17 June 2014. The workshop was organized to sensitize different stakeholders of government and non-government high officials, civil society representatives and media personnel. All were informed about the specific roles to implement tobacco control activities at local level. The participants have committed to devote their best efforts in respective sector to ensure enforcement of tobacco control law in the district.
Mr. G S M Jafarullah, Deputy Commissioner, Madaripur was present in the workshop as Chief Guest. Mr. Khandoker Faridul Islam, Superintendent of Police, Madaripur, Mr. Khalid Hossain Yead, Mayor, Madaripur Municipality, Mr. Shah Rezwan Hayat, Deputy Secretary, Forestry and Environment was present as resource person in the workshop. While Ms. Ishrat Chowdhury, Technical Advisor (Public Health), The Union, South East Asia was present as a special guest in the workshop. Representatives from Government high officials, media personnel, civil society and other stakeholders were also present there. The workshop was chaired by Dr. Mr. Bashudeb Kumar Das, Civil Surgeon, Madaripur, The sessions of the workshop was moderated by Md. Bariul Islam, The Executive Magistrate, Madaripur.
The inaugural session of the workshop commenced with the welcome address of Dr. S M Khaliluzzaman, Medical Officer Civil Surgeon Office, Madaripur. Mr. Md. Amin Ul Ahsan, Coordinator, National Tobacco control Cell, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare delivered his power point presentation on tobacco control law and its implementation and enforcement at district level. Mr. Alamgir Sikder, Program Officer, National Tobacco Control Cell (NTCC), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has coordinated the workshop.
